Thank you to Jilly Kikuchigo and om Charron for supporting the arts of Second Life at Hughes Rise!
Quote from Dekka about his work:
Most of my work is influenced by events in both Second Life and in Real Life, one serves the other. Spread over eight parcels on the Hughes Rise mainland sim, seven works and a 'money box', this work represents the darker side of our relationship with virtual worlds. Whilst Second Life can act as a release from Real Life, over time it can also become a tool for avoiding reality too.
Developed from different ideas I started working on towards the end of 2009 I didn't set out with the intention of it being so dark, maybe the bitter cold days of December 2009 in the UK influenced this too, but as I completed the pieces I saw the corellation of this subject matter emerge.
The individual parcels have become a combination of two parts, the work and the surrounding buildings. The buildings developed after I viewed the 8 parcels on the sim, they suggest a number of feelings, avoidance, addiction, incompleteness, alienation and phobia. But also about illusion, journey and discovery.
